Overview

The Graduate Diploma is an advanced qualification in TESOL and Literacy. Students will gain an advanced understanding of TESOL approaches (text-based, genre-based, task–based, Systemic Functional Linguistics, etc), curriculum development, applied linguistics, second language acquisition, and assessment design. They will have the opportunity to apply their acquired knowledge in real TESOL classrooms. A key feature of the program is that students will be trained in tailoring their teaching approaches to accommodate a different cohort of students across age groups, and ethnicity, as well as variation in literacy and numeracy skill levels. The award is accredited and recognised internationally.

Academic Requirements
  • Successful completion of a Bachelor degree, or an advanced Diploma, or equivalent with relevant working experience (including internships).
Course Aims, Content and Outcomes
The purpose of the course is for students to gain professional competence in TESOL for program planning, teaching and assessment. The course supports students’ preparation, innovation and application of curriculum and teaching practices adapted to different contexts. To achieve the qualification of Graduate Diploma of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, the students must complete six units of study and be assessed as competent in all the units. For each unit of study students join in knowledge and skill building tasks investigating aspects of language study and teaching.

Learning Methodology
Synchronous Distance Delivery:
AIBT Synchronous Distance Delivery is the learning in real time with the trainer, tutor at the helm of the room leading the discussion, encouraging active participation in the learning materials. The delivery is through online virtual classroom, so students can expect the same high quality learning received through face to face onsite.

Onsite:
Delivery of content is by lectures, presentations, group activities, case studies and practical sessions. Assessment is by a mixture of written assignments such as reports, tests of knowledge, finished examples of work, participation in role plays and doing presentations in class.

This unit is designed for individuals who are seeking to become professionals in the field of TESOL teaching, equipping them with extensive knowledge of the theories and practices in TESOL as well as the skills required to sustain a high level of expertise in the subject area.
